Did you know we can help the Philippines build homes for thousands of families by shopping? You read that right! It’s literally shopping for a cause. Those just addicted to home decor and improvement, (like me!) and those who want to renovate and redecorate their own homes can help give decent homes to those in need just by shopping for furniture and appliances.

“Its concept is similar to retail; but ReStore is not really retail. It’s purely a donation center. ReStore is a place where people can donate and donations can be in the form of items voluntarily given or in cash in exchange of an item that a person buys from the store. It’s just one of the many opportunities where people can be part of building homes and part of nation building”, says Francis Macatulad, Head of Volunteer Programs and ReStore for Habitat Philippines.

“ReStore”, Habitat for Humanity’s non-profit home improvement donation center, recently opened its first ReStore located along Alabang-Zapote Road, Las Piñas City. The center is managed by Habitat for Humanity Philippines. It’s the first of its kind in Asia!

In ReStore, you can buy spanking new and pre-loved furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances that are donated by individuals or groups to Habitat for Humanity. All proceeds from ReStore help in the building of decent and affordable homes, communities, and hope. It’s super perfect for your home, AND you get to help those in need!

Aside from shopping for a cause, you can also donate new or your pre-loved appliances and furniture to fund Habitat’s advocacy. Take note on pre-loved items, they don’t sell broken wares, so customers can be assured that their items are 100% okay.

If you’re still not convinced, maybe this would convince you to go to ReStore. Everything in ReStore, and I mean EVERYTHING, is on SALE. All their items cost lower than their SRPs in their original stores. Whether its sparkling, plastic wrapped brand new washing machine to your pre-loved hand knitted coaster, it’s all cheaper here. All of it is 30% to 75% lower than the retail price.

Habitat for Humanity Philippines started way back in 1988. Since then, it has served more than 135,000 families with decent housing. From 2013, HFH Philippines have provided families with housing averaging of over 31,000 families annually. Not just housing, they are able to provide families with improved access to clean water, sustainable energy, healthcare, and livelihood. Amazingly, they also respond to natural disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes.

Basically, HFH Philippines partners with government agencies, corporations, NGOs, and faith-based groups to build homes and give hope. Habitat affiliates from other countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have also established their own ReStores to raise additional funds. Habitat ReStore now has about 1,000 outlets all over the globe.

According to statistics (made by Subdivision & Housing Developers Association and Center for Research and Communications _ UA&P) there are nearly FOUR MILLION families living in unsafe and unsustainable conditions. To make matters worse, the housing policy of the Philippine Government is deemed inadequate. That is why Habitat for Humanity Philippines is pushing for more improved government housing policies so that everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
