Our cultral norm hails fair pale skin as the epitome of beautiful. Combine it with long straight jet black hair and we have the usual standard of beauty. But most Filipinas aren’t born with that skin color but actively try to achieve that. There isn’t anything wrong with that, and there are a lot of people who totally rock their fair skin. It’s just that I don’t think that being fair skinned is for me. This isn’t a popular opinion, but let me explain why.
1. I like my skin color
A lot of Filipinas I know hate their natural skin color. Personally, I think my honey tan is a work of art. The beautiful saturated color looks exotic and different.
2. I love water sports
I like swimming, scuba, beach, and other outdoor water activities to bother trying to not get tan. When I travel, 80% would probably be on water. I love to snorkel, scuba, and try out other water activities. My morena skin naturally colors this way when I go out. If I do want to maintain the beauty norm of pale skin, it would take me out of the sun.
3. It looks bad ass
I see surfers’ tan around and I am in love. The olive tone of it, the way the muscles look more defined, and how it contrasts with their clothes. I really think its beautiful. I’m actively trying to be fit and being morena shows your muscle definitions better.
4. Morena skin is easy to maintain
There isn’t a need for me to buy whitening creams and lotions. I don’t feel the pressure to get diamond peels that promises becoming shades lighter. And I don’t feel like having to dodge the heat and the sun whenever I have to walk outdoors.
But I think that the most beautiful skin aren’t driven by what color it has, but how healthy it is. What about you? What are the characters of beautiful skin?
Recently, Colourette Cosmetics campaigned for everyone with morena skin. #MorenaLove
